Oman is strengthening its position as a global tourism destination, with visitor arrivals from France continuing to grow on the back of targeted promotional campaigns, improved connectivity and the country's reputation for safety and cultural heritage.
According to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, French
tourist arrivals increased 25% in 2025 to 77,000 visitors compared with 2024.
The upward trend has continued into 2026, with more than
24,600 French visitors recorded during the first quarter, up 10% year-on-year.
Khulood Al Kaabi, Head of the European and American Markets
Department, attributed the growth to the ministry's marketing efforts in France
and Oman's strong reputation among French travellers.
She said the country's stability, security and commitment to
openness and international peace have enhanced its appeal as a preferred
destination.
To improve visitor experiences, the ministry, in partnership
with the Ministry of Labour, has introduced a five-month training programme for
French-speaking tour guides.
More than 350 French travel companies also received cultural
awareness training on Oman last year as part of efforts to promote the
destination's unique attractions.
Air connectivity has also supported growth, with Oman Air
operating four to five weekly flights between Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
and Muscat International Airport.
The ministry also highlighted Oman's rich cultural heritage,
noting that the country has ratified five of UNESCO's six cultural heritage
conventions and has five sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List, including
Bahla Fort, the Land of Frankincense and the Aflaj irrigation system.
Several additional sites remain on Oman's tentative list for
future inscription.
Officials said Oman continues to support UNESCO initiatives,
including the Maritime Silk Road programme and the Sultan Haitham Award for the
Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, reinforcing the country's
commitment to preserving and promoting global cultural heritage.
