Iran has delivered its latest proposal for negotiations to end the war with US to Pakistan, a mediator, said IRNA news agency.
However, the contents of the proposal have not been made known.
CNN quoted an Iranian source as saying Tehran could see talks restarting if the US lifts its blockade of Iranian ports and Iran fully reopens the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei emphasised in a television interview that ending the war and establishing a sustainable peace remain Tehran’s main priorities in negotiations with the United States.
The US has made it clear that Iran should let ships pass through the strait unconditionally; it’s not known whether the latest proposal from Iran goes that far.
“We do not detail private diplomatic conversations. President Trump has been clear that Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon, and negotiations continue to ensure the short- and long-term national security of the United States,” White House spokesperson Anna Kelly told CNN in a statement.
Meanwhile, another CNN investigation found that Iran and its allies have damaged at least 16 US military installations across eight Middle Eastern countries, rendering some of those positions virtually unusable, a CNN report said.
The report drew on dozens of satellite images and interviews with sources in the United States and Gulf Arab nations. The damaged facilities constitute the majority of US military positions in the region, according to one congressional aide familiar with the damage assessments.
