King Khalid International Airport, managed and operated by Riyadh Airports Company (RAC), announced its readiness to implement terminal transfer project starting February 17 through February 25.
The project marks the largest operational
transformation since the airport’s establishment, reported SPA.
It aims to facilitate passenger movement on domestic and international connecting flights while maximising the utilisation of airport facilities and infrastructure.
Airport management confirmed completion of all operational preparations and coordination with relevant partners to ensure smooth passenger flow, optimise terminal usage, reduce travel times, and accommodate the continued growth in passenger numbers.
Under the operational plan, airline flights will be redistributed.
Beginning February 16, Terminals 1 and 2
will serve international flights operated by national carriers. Starting
February 24, Terminal 4 will handle domestic flights of national carriers.
Effective February 25, Terminal 5 will be designated for international flights operated by foreign carriers, while Terminal 3 will be merged with Terminal 4 to serve domestic flights of national carriers, reducing waiting times for connecting passengers.
The transition is expected to increase terminal capacity by 33%, from 42 million passengers in 2025 to 56 million passengers by the end of 2026, while raising annual transit and connecting passenger capacity to 7.5 million.
To support the transition, more than 650 guides have been deployed to assist passengers prior to terminal entry, respond to inquiries, and provide on-site operational support.
The airport has also introduced several facilitation measures, including free
parking for the first hour, complimentary taxi and Riyadh Metro transportation
between terminals, and increased shuttle bus frequency to every four minutes.
Passengers are advised to contact their airlines or use the airport’s interactive WhatsApp service to verify flight details and assigned terminals before arriving at the airport.
The initiative forms part of a comprehensive development plan aligned with the
objectives of the aviation sector and Vision 2030, which seeks to position the
Kingdom as a global logistics hub connecting three continents.
