Saudi Arabia activates multi-modal system to export diammonium phosphate

Saudi Arabia has activated a strategic logistics service through the integration of Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), and national shipping carrier Bahri, transporting diammonium phosphate (DAP) from Ras Al-Khair to Yanbu Port.

This multimodal system — linking rail, road, and sea — strengthens global food supply chains and secures the Kingdom’s role as a reliable supplier of vital agricultural materials, said a Saudi Press Agency report.

The operation involves transporting over 45,000 tons of DAP in its first phase. Specialised containers are moved by rail from Ras Al-Khair to the Hail cargo yard, then transported by road to Yanbu Commercial Port for global export. This model highlights the high operational capacity of the Kingdom’s logistics infrastructure and its seamless integration with the mining sector.

Beyond economic efficiency, the service will displace around 4,800 truck journeys over the next three months. This transition to rail-integrated transport improves road safety, reduces traffic congestion, and lowers carbon emissions, supporting the Kingdom's goals for sustainable transport and its position as a global logistics hub connecting three continents.
