Middle East MICE sector poised for big growth

Middle East MICE sector poised for big growth

By Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market

Business events have long been viewed as a barometer of economic confidence, and the ongoing growth and resilience of the Middle East's MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector point to a decidedly positive outlook for the region.

Recent industry research reinforces this momentum. Mordor Intelligence notes that the Middle East’s MICE industry is expanding rapidly as investment in large-scale venues, infrastructure, and international partnerships accelerates. The UAE and Saudi Arabia are leading the charge, with the UAE MICE market forecast to grow to $9.26 billion by 2030 and the Saudi market projected to reach $5.33 billion in the same timeframe.

Together, these markets are expected to drive the Gulf’s emergence as one of the world’s most dynamic regions for business events. Several factors explain this upward trend. Governments across the region have embedded business events into wider economic diversification strategies, recognising that conferences and exhibitions do far more than fill hotel rooms – they drive investment, knowledge exchange, trade partnerships and long-term sector development.

The region’s physical infrastructure tells a similar story. Landmark venues including the Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai Exhibition Centre, Riyadh Front Exhibition and Conference Centre, and Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre, combined with ever-expanding airline networks, have created an environment defined by accessibility and connectivity. The Middle East is no longer simply well-positioned geographically; it is structurally designed for global engagement.

Inbound participation continues to play a pivotal role. Dubai World Trade Centre's 2024 Economic Impact Assessment, alongside broader industry data, highlights strong travel flows between the GCC and the wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA) markets, supported by short-haul connectivity and regional trade integration.

Delegates from Europe, South Asia, and the Asia Pacific remain key contributors, while North America and Africa are emerging as increasingly important sources of high-value exhibitors and corporate travellers. The result is a business events landscape characterised by diversity, scale and cross-regional exchange.

Yet, the Middle East’s role is evolving beyond that of a host market. The region is also emerging as a significant outbound generator of MICE business. Data from 6Wresearch indicates that organisations across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar are increasingly investing in overseas conferences, exhibitions, and incentive programmes, reflecting an expanding corporate footprint and international partnerships.

Against this backdrop, the continued expansion of dedicated business event platforms is essential. Following a successful debut at Arabian Travel Market last year, IBTM @ ATM will return to the show, highlighting our strategic focus on the global MICE and business events sector and underscoring the Middle East's position as one of the fastest-growing regions for meetings and events worldwide.

As part of Arabian Travel Market, IBTM @ ATM, which includes the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) as its Official Business Events Partner, will bring together the global business events community with the region's vibrant meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions sector. ATM attracts over 55,000 industry professionals from 166 countries and will showcase more than 2,800 exhibiting companies from every segment of the travel and tourism industry.

IBTM @ ATM will connect association planners, professional conference organisers, corporate buyers, and incentive agencies with destinations, venues, destination management companies (DMCs), and suppliers specialising in world-class business events. This connection will be supported by a comprehensive hosted buyer programme, targeted networking opportunities and pre-scheduled business appointments.

Aligned with the theme of ATM 2026, ‘Travel 2040: Driving New Frontiers Through Innovation and Technology,’ the Experience Stage at IBTM @ ATM will feature themed tracks and expert-led sessions exploring the evolution of events, the transformation of incentive travel, and the integration of technology into meetings and events.

Ultimately, the Middle East’s MICE and business events landscape is no longer defined simply by expansion, but by strategic vision, world-class infrastructure and rising global integration as the region moves into a new era of opportunity. -TradeArabia News Service
