Latin America has significant untapped geothermal potential, with resources estimated at up to 70 gigawatts (GW), yet less than 6 per cent has been developed, according to discussions hosted by the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), the Global Geothermal Alliance (GGA), and the Government of El Salvador.
Despite nearly 98 per cent electrification, Latin America still faces rural energy access gaps, particularly in the Amazon and Andean regions. Decentralised renewable energy solutions, including solar and micro-hydropower, are emerging as key tools to expand access and support remote communities.
Etihad Airways and Abra Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen air connectivity between Latin America, the Middle East and Asia through closer cooperation between Etihad and Abra's airlines, including Avianca, GOL and Wamos Air.
Gulf Marine Services secured a four-year, 1,461-day charter for a self-elevating accommodation unit, expanding its Latin America presence. The vessel will be deployed offshore Brazil, with delivery planned between August and November 2026.
