ENOC launches first checkout-free ZOOM store using Amazon tech

ENOC Group has inaugurated its first ZOOM convenience store featuring Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology, introducing checkout-free shopping at its retail network and marking a new milestone in convenience retail innovation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Located at ENOC service station Site 1019, opposite City Walk, the store uses artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision to deliver a faster and more seamless shopping experience, allowing customers to purchase products without using conventional checkout counters.

Under the technology, customers select the products they need, tap their payment card or mobile wallet when exiting and leave the store without waiting in queues.

The system automatically identifies items taken from or returned to shelves, maintaining a virtual record of purchases and processing payment upon completion of the shopping journey.

The launch represents the first deployment of Amazon's Just Walk Out technology within ENOC's ZOOM retail network and forms part of the group's broader strategy to modernise its convenience retail offering through advanced technologies and international partnerships.

By integrating Amazon's retail technology into its service stations, ENOC aims to respond to changing customer expectations, particularly the growing demand for speed, flexibility and convenience.

The initiative also reflects ENOC's ambition to transform its service stations into integrated, one-stop-shop destinations that combine mobility services with technology-enabled retail experiences.

The launch builds on a strategic collaboration announced by ENOC Group and Amazon UAE in October 2025, which aims to enhance retail experiences by combining ENOC's extensive retail network with Amazon's digital commerce capabilities and technological expertise.

The partnership covers several initiatives across physical and online retail channels, including exploring opportunities to use ENOC's existing infrastructure as quick-fulfilment hubs, bringing everyday essentials closer to customers.

It also includes making ENOC's product portfolio available through Amazon.ae, expanding customer access to the group's retail offerings through digital channels.

Through the collaboration, ENOC aims to strengthen its position in convenience retail while exploring innovative ways to improve customer experiences across its network.

Ali Khalid Bin Zayed Alfalasi, Deputy Chief Commercial & Retail Officer, ENOC Group, said: "The future of retail will be defined by how seamlessly technology can integrate into people's everyday lives. As customer expectations evolve, our responsibility extends beyond providing essential mobility services to reimagining the experiences that surround them. At ENOC, we see strategic partnerships with global technology leaders as a powerful catalyst for this transformation, allowing us to bring world-class innovation closer to the communities we serve. Our collaboration with Amazon reflects this ambition, translating advanced technology into a tangible improvement in how customers shop, while demonstrating the UAE's position as a market where pioneering solutions can be brought to life. This launch is an important milestone in our journey to create smarter, more connected and customer-centric retail experiences across our network."

Rajiv Chopra, Vice President, Just Walk Out, said: "Convenience stores have operated the same way for decades: customers select their items, join a queue, and wait to pay. Just Walk Out technology by Amazon removes that final step. ENOC is exactly the kind of forward-looking partner to bring this experience to the region, and we're proud that its ZOOM stores are the first in the Middle East to introduce it, giving customers a faster, more seamless way to shop and continue their journey." -TradeArabia News Service
