Zayed International Airport (AUH) has received the Certified Autism Centre (CAC) designation from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), recognising its commitment to inclusive and accessible air travel.
The certification follows an onsite assessment and
evidence-based training aligned with IBCCES’ international standards.
The programme reviewed passenger-facing environments,
service processes and operational touchpoints while equipping airport teams
with the skills and confidence to support autistic and sensory-sensitive
travellers.
AUH offers a range of autism- and sensory-friendly services
aimed at making the passenger journey more predictable and comfortable.
These include a dedicated sensory space featuring
interactive elements and calming lighting, as well as Hidden Disability
Sunflower lanyards, allowing passengers to discreetly indicate that they may
require additional time or assistance.
Trained airport teams provide personalised support
throughout the journey, helping reduce stress and improve accessibility for
passengers with different sensory and communication needs.
IBCCES provides autism, sensory and neurodiversity training
and certification across sectors including travel, healthcare, education and
public safety.
Its programmes combine expert-led training, input from
autistic self-advocates, onsite reviews and ongoing learning requirements to
support long-term improvements in accessibility and inclusion.
