Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism has approved updated regulations governing accommodation facilities serving Hajj pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah ahead of the 1448 AH Hajj season.

The changes cover licensing, classification standards and violations, with the aim of improving operational readiness, service quality and safety at facilities hosting pilgrims.

Ministry of Tourism spokesperson Nasr Alansari said the updated framework requires facilities to demonstrate operational readiness, meet safety and maintenance standards, maintain essential services and comply with requirements before receiving pilgrims.

Under the new standards, Hajj accommodation facilities will be classified into economy and first-class categories, with requirements covering rooms, reception areas, common spaces, cleanliness, maintenance and guest services.

The ministry will conduct inspections at multiple stages, including before licensing, ahead of operations and throughout the Hajj season, to strengthen compliance and service standards.

The ministry said hosting pilgrims represents a shared national responsibility and reflects Saudi Arabia’s longstanding commitment to serving Hajj pilgrims.

It urged applicants seeking licences for the 1448 AH season to begin preparations early, complete maintenance and other requirements, and submit licence applications. -TradeArabia News Service
