Malaysia’s Petronas has made another gas discovery in Suriname’s offshore Block 52. President Jennifer Simons said it would support future energy projects, while Petronas COO Mohd Abdul Wahab said eight discoveries in the block exceed 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
QatarEnergy has signed two new production sharing contracts (PSC) for offshore Blocks 9 and 10 in Suriname. The blocks were awarded to a QatarEnergy consortium during the POST SHO2 bid round held in June 2025.
Suriname is becoming a significant player in global energy, with major offshore oil discoveries and recoverable resources of 2.4 billion barrels of oil equivalent and 12.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Rapid exploration is expected, with production anticipated between 2025 and 2027.
