Top firms bid for Jeddah-Makkah Direct Highway project

The Roads General Authority (RGA) has announced that a total of 42 companies have expressed their interest in the operation and maintenance of Jeddah-Makkah highway for a 10-year project, as well as the development of Motorway Services Areas (MSA) along the highway.
The newly-built highway consists of a dual 4 lane road spanning 64 km. The highway also includes four MSAs (two in each direction).
According to RGA, the project scope includes provision of design, build, finance, operation and maintenance services in the Motorway Services Areas (MSAs) as well as O&M services for the Jeddah-Makkah Direct Highway.
Fifteen top global firms are in the race for the project including Egis (France); FCC Aqualia (Spain); lntertoll lnternational Holdings BV (Netherlands); NPSGK (Russia); Tamasuk Holding Company (US) and Urbas (Spain) as well as Icholding (Turkey) and Sichuan Road & Bridge Group and Edgenta Arabia Limited (Malaysia).
In addition to this, big regional players too are in the fray such as Kuwait-based groups Alghanim and Combined Group Contracting Company; Contrax International DMCC (UAE); Lamar Holding (Bahrain) as well as Egyptian construction major Orascom.
According to RGA, the project has drawn solid interest from Saudi firms with a record 27 firms submitting EoIs for the project.
These are: Al Bawani; Al Gihaz Holding Company; Al Modon Al Arabia Holding; Al-Ayuni Investment & Contracting; Al-Enjaz Trading and Contracting Company; Alfahdco; Almusbah Telecom Company; Alsuwaiket Trading and contracting; Annasban Group; Buhur for investment; Dathin Contracting Company; Erada Advanced Projects; Esnad Elturuq General Contracting Company; GCLA Engineering Consultancy; Hafil Transport Company; Mada International Holding; Modern Building Leaders; Moon Holding Company; Mowah Company; Nesma and Partners Contracting Company; Nesma Company; Rio Arabia For contracting; Samaya Group Company; Sajco; Talid Arabia Trading; Three Palm Trees Trading Group and Twaik M Al Otaibi for Contracting.
RGA said the tender aims to attract the best in-class road construction companies, to be delivered to the highest standards of traffic safety and quality, in line with the Roads Strategy and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS).-TradeArabia News Service
