The 25th edition of Dubai Airport Show concluded at Dubai
World Trade Centre on October 14, bringing together more than 150 exhibitors
from over 30 countries and attracting more than 3,000 visitors to explore
technologies shaping the future of airport development, digital transformation,
aviation security and sustainability.
Opened by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin
Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Border Security Council, on October
12, the three-day event highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence
(AI), biometrics, digital twins and integrated data platforms in transforming
airport operations as investment in aviation infrastructure accelerates across
the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the wider region.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin
Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of
Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group,
the exhibition provided a platform for airport operators, technology providers,
government officials and industry leaders to discuss emerging challenges and
opportunities.
At the Global Airport Leaders' Forum, speakers highlighted
the importance of leadership, communication and innovation in maintaining
passenger confidence and improving airport experiences.
Eng. Khalifa S Ali Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai
Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South, said Dubai’s ambition to build the
world’s largest airport extends beyond infrastructure and passenger capacity,
with passenger experience remaining a central priority.
In his strategic opening address, Zaffin stressed that
technology must be incorporated into airport design from the outset to improve
operations, enhance passenger experiences and benefit stakeholders.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports,
identified collaboration, operational agility and innovation as three
priorities for the aviation sector. He noted that passengers experience their
airport journey as one continuous process rather than a series of separate
services.
“Airports must be designed to allow new technologies to be
introduced and integrated into their operations over many years,” he said.
Technology and operational efficiency
AI, biometric identification, digital twins and connected
data systems emerged as key themes throughout the event, with exhibitors and
speakers examining their applications in passenger screening, baggage handling,
energy management and airport operations.
Addressing the Air Traffic Control Forum, Talal Al Hammadi,
Vice President of Air Traffic Development at Dubai Air Navigation Services
(dans), said the industry's biggest challenge was not technology itself but the
different speeds at which aviation and technological capabilities evolve.
His remarks highlighted the need for airports and air
navigation providers to adapt their operational systems and decision-making
processes as AI capabilities develop rapidly and influence traffic flows.
The exhibition also attracted positive feedback from
participating companies. ARC Airport Research Center reported stronger activity
than at the previous edition, with its meeting schedule fully booked throughout
the event.
Georges Fenergi, Senior Vice President, EMEA at Amadeus,
described the exhibition as a valuable meeting point for the industry.
"Under one roof you find airports, airlines, ground
handlers and technology partners, in the place where things are happening
faster than anywhere else in the world."
Business partnerships and commercial opportunities
The Business Connect programme was a key feature of Airport
Show 2026, facilitating pre-arranged meetings and direct engagement between
exhibitors, hosted buyers and industry decision-makers. The programme included
150 hosted buyers, helping create opportunities for collaboration, business
development and new partnerships.
Several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed
during the exhibition, including agreements involving Dubai Airports and
Vanderlande, and Fujairah International Airport and Italy’s ENAV Group.
RX, the exhibition organiser, also signed three MoUs with
dans, dnata and Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) to establish
strategic partnerships aimed at supporting the regional aviation sector.
“As organisers, our objective is to ensure that Airport Show
continues to deliver tangible business value, facilitate strategic partnerships
and connect global expertise with regional opportunities. The exhibition's
success is measured by the quality of business connections, partnerships and
long-term opportunities it creates for the airport industry," said May
Ismail, Event Manager at RX Middle East.
Ismail said the event had brought the global aviation
community to Dubai, connecting airport leaders, government officials and
service providers with technologies and ideas shaping the industry.
“Airport Show 2026 came at an important time, as investment
in airport and infrastructure projects continues to grow across the GCC and the
wider region. For SPD, the event provided a valuable platform to strengthen
existing relationships, engage directly with airport owners, developers, and
key contractors, and gain greater insight into upcoming projects and business
opportunities across regional markets,” said Ahmad Albouz, Deputy General
Manager, SDP.
Khansaheb Facilities Management also highlighted the role of
facilities management in delivering safe, comfortable and efficient airport
environments, pointing to innovation, operational excellence and collaboration
as priorities for more sustainable infrastructure.
Women in aviation and safety
The Women in Aviation (WIA) Middle East Conference &
Awards brought together aviation leaders, professionals and young women
exploring careers in the sector.
Mervat Sultan, President of the Women in Aviation Middle
East Chapter, urged industry stakeholders to demonstrate their commitment to
developing the next generation of aviation professionals.
"Somewhere today, a young woman is deciding whether
aviation is the industry for her. She is listening to what we say, but she is
also watching how we behave under pressure and how we treat our people,"
she said. "We can maintain the highest standards and still make room for
fresh thinking. Our future depends on doing both."
In her keynote address, Aysha Mohammed Alhameli, Assistant
Director General, Air Accident Investigation, UAE General Civil Aviation
Authority (GCAA), emphasised the human impact of aviation accidents and the
industry's responsibility to maintain high safety standards.
"Behind every accident there are human beings, not only
victims but their families and all those affected. It is a reminder of how
important our work is, and how precise and committed we must be to our ultimate
goal of aviation safety and security."
Looking ahead to 2027
Airport Show was sponsored by Schneider Electric, Smiths
Detection, ADB Safegate and Amadeus, with support from Dubai Civil Aviation
Authority, Dubai Airports, DAEP, Emirates, dnata, dans, Dubai Police and other
aviation organisations.
Ismail thanked the event's strategic partners and said
preparations for the next edition had already begun.
“I express my deep appreciation to all our strategic
partners for the great success achieved by the exhibition in its current
session, and we have begun preparing from now to make the next session an
exceptional one in every sense.”
“The Airport Show next year will be much larger with broader
participation from more countries, organisations and leading players.
Organised by RX, which manages approximately 350 events
worldwide, Airport Show continues to serve as a platform for international
collaboration and the exchange of solutions as the region advances major
airport expansion and modernisation projects. -TradeArabia News Service
