TrinaTracker expands smart PV ecosystem with two new robotics solutions

TrinaTracker, a provider of smart solar tracking systems, has launched two self-developed robotic products designed to improve photovoltaic (PV) power plant construction and maintenance, marking a further expansion of its Smart PV Ecosystem.

The new products, the BUILDEX PV Module Installation Robot and the AURORA PV Cleaning Robot, are designed to automate solar module installation and cleaning, improve operational efficiency and reduce costs throughout the lifecycle of solar power plants.

The launch reflects TrinaTracker’s transformation since the beginning of the year from a tracking system equipment supplier into a Smart PV and Robotics Solution Provider.

By integrating high-reliability trackers, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, engineering and intelligent operations services, the company aims to optimise plant design, enhance construction quality and streamline operations and maintenance (O&M).

BUILDEX Automates Solar Module Installation

The BUILDEX PV Module Installation Robot addresses challenges associated with traditional solar module installation, which often relies on manual labour and can involve lengthy construction schedules, high costs, inconsistent installation accuracy and workplace safety risks.

Powered by AI-based visual positioning and precision mechanical control systems, BUILDEX automates module picking, transportation, alignment and placement.

The robot uses industrial 3D cameras and AI vision algorithms to identify modules and mounting structures, achieving millimetre-level alignment for more consistent installation.

According to TrinaTracker, BUILDEX can install up to 90 modules per hour, operating at three to four times the speed of manual labour. Its fork-and-flip mechanism supports automatic material feeding and accommodates both landscape and portrait module orientations, helping to simplify material handling and accelerate construction schedules.

The robot is designed to work across different terrains and mounting configurations, including fixed and tracking structures, as well as single- and dual-row portrait tracker arrangements, known as 1P and 2P. Its adjustable base and platform levelling capability of up to 17 degrees enable operation on sloping land.

A LiDAR-AI multisensing safety system helps identify and prevent potential on-site hazards.

The robot is also designed for continuous operation, reducing dependence on manual labour and helping developers shorten construction timelines and lower installation costs.

AURORA Supports Intelligent Solar Panel Cleaning

The AURORA PV Cleaning Robot targets another challenge facing solar power plant operators: the accumulation of dust and dirt on module surfaces, which can reduce sunlight absorption and affect electricity generation.

Traditional cleaning methods can be constrained by labour availability, difficult terrain, weather conditions and safety concerns.

AURORA is designed to provide autonomous, regular cleaning while protecting module surfaces and reducing long-term maintenance requirements.

The robot incorporates proprietary self-correction algorithms that enable it to accommodate height differences of up to 50 millimetres, supporting continuous cleaning across uneven or complex sites.

Using real-time information from the power plant, solar trackers and environmental sensors, AURORA develops cleaning routes and takes preventive measures to avoid potential hazards. Its self-powered operating system, which uses photovoltaic modules, enables unattended, cyclical cleaning and reduces the need for routine human intervention.

By maintaining cleaner module surfaces, the system aims to support energy generation, improve maintenance efficiency and help operators protect the long-term value of solar assets.

AI and Robotics Expand the Tracker+ Ecosystem

TrinaTracker said the introduction of the robots represents a broader strategic development of its “Tracker+” smart energy ecosystem, rather than simply an expansion of its hardware portfolio.

The company is combining AI-powered robotics with digital platforms and digital twin technology to connect construction activities, equipment performance and routine maintenance. Operational data gathered from its global portfolio will support ongoing algorithm improvements, helping the robots adapt to varied terrain, extreme weather and changing structural conditions.

Data generated by the robots will also be integrated into Trina’s digital platform, supporting a more automated approach to solar plant management.

The company aims to help plant owners reduce the levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) while maximising asset performance and value. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
