Bahrain is continuing efforts to strengthen its tourism sector by developing its competitive advantages, expanding digital transformation and promoting sustainable tourism, Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi said on World Tourism Day.

In a statement marking World Tourism Day on September 27, Al Sairafi said the Kingdom was building on progress achieved in tourism to strengthen its position as a regional and international destination while supporting wider national development.

She said the annual occasion highlights tourism’s growing contribution to economic and social development and cultural exchange, while providing an opportunity to explore new opportunities created by rapid changes in the global tourism industry.

This year’s theme, "Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism", reflects the sector’s growing reliance on technology and artificial intelligence.

Bahrain is expanding digital transformation in tourism in line with the objectives of its Tourism Sector Strategy 2022–2026, she said.

The Ministry of Tourism and Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), working with the private sector, are using modern technologies and AI to improve visitor experiences and respond to tourists’ needs.

Measures include improving access to tourism services and developing interactive digital platforms to promote Bahrain’s attractions and destinations.

Al Sairafi said these initiatives would help improve service quality while strengthening the sector’s competitiveness.

She also stressed that technological development must go hand in hand with sustainability.

Tourism businesses are being encouraged to adopt innovative solutions to improve resource management and reduce environmental impact, alongside efforts to develop tourism infrastructure, attract investment and host international events, exhibitions and other occasions.

According to the minister, these efforts will help diversify Bahrain’s tourism offering and increase its appeal to visitors.

Bahrain’s cultural and historical heritage, historic sites, beaches, entertainment facilities and range of visitor experiences provide a strong foundation for further tourism development, Al Sairafi said.

She emphasised the importance of preserving national identity and cultural heritage while strengthening their contribution to tourism.

The minister also highlighted the importance of cooperation between government bodies, the private sector and the community in increasing tourism’s contribution to the national economy.

She commended tourism-sector workers for their efforts to improve services and enrich visitor experiences, supporting the goal of a more competitive, diverse and sustainable tourism sector.

Al Sairafi said Bahrain’s tourism development forms part of wider national efforts led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and guided by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. -TradeArabia News Service
