Prices for fuels and lubricants for personal transport in the European Union (EU) rose 23.8 per cent year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from increases of 13.7 per cent in June and 16.9 per cent in July, according to Eurostat.

Prices increased in 26 of the 27 EU countries, with 18 recording rises above 20 per cent. Bulgaria posted the sharpest increase at 34.5 per cent, followed by Lithuania at 28.8 per cent, Finland at 27.6 per cent, Germany at 27.5 per cent and France at 27.4 per cent. Hungary recorded the smallest increase at 1.3 per cent.

On a monthly basis, diesel prices climbed 8.3 per cent in August, while petrol rose 3.3 per cent.

Diesel prices increased in 26 countries, led by Czechia at 14.3 per cent and Bulgaria at 13.5 per cent.

Petrol prices rose in 22 countries, with the largest increases in Spain (8.2 per cent) and Romania (6.6 per cent). Prices fell slightly in Hungary, Denmark and Slovakia. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
