Wood Nobel Energy has secured the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the Nakhchivan Combined Cycle Thermal Power Plant in Azerbaijan, supporting plans to expand electricity generation and export capacity in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The contract, awarded by SOCAR Midstream Gas Operations, will establish the plant’s technical design and execution strategy and provide the foundation for the subsequent engineering, procurement and construction phase.

The combined-cycle facility will use a more efficient configuration than conventional thermal power plants by capturing and reusing waste heat that would otherwise be lost.

The plant is also being designed to accommodate future expansion, supporting long-term power generation requirements in the region.

The project follows Order No. 418, issued by the President of Azerbaijan on December 23, 2024, which outlines measures for the construction of a new thermal power plant in Nakhchivan to increase electricity production and export capacity.

Wood Nobel Energy combines Wood’s global engineering and energy infrastructure expertise with Nobel Energy’s local workforce, supply chain and market knowledge.

The joint venture will deliver engineering services in Azerbaijan while drawing on international technical standards and specialist expertise.

The plant’s location will benefit from existing and planned infrastructure, helping reduce project complexity and support efficient delivery.

During the design phase, Wood Nobel Energy will focus on developing a reliable, efficient and technically robust facility aligned with the client’s long-term power generation objectives.
