Three Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) have been signed in Damascus for the development of three solar energy projects in Syria’s Rif Dimashq province, with a combined capacity of 760 megawatts (MW) and battery storage capacity of 1,077 megawatt-hours (MWh).

The agreements, signed on August 5 under the supervision of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, were concluded between Saudi-based Mohammed Al-Harfi Company and the Syrian Electricity Company.

The projects will be developed in the Widyan Al-Rabie area.

The PPAs, which have terms ranging from 20 to 25 years, will provide electricity at competitive tariffs starting from 3 US cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), according to the announcement.

Two additional technical cooperation agreements were signed to support the projects.

The first, between Al-Harfi Company and Saudi Electricity Project Development Company (PDC), covers specialised engineering and advisory services for project management and implementation.

The second agreement, signed with Germany’s Siemens Energy, focuses on technical cooperation and the transfer of expertise in main substations, power generation and energy storage systems.

The agreements are intended to support implementation according to high technical standards and strengthen coordination between the participating companies and Syrian authorities.

The deals build on earlier cooperation in Syria’s electricity sector.

In February, Saudi Electricity PDC signed a framework agreement with the Syrian side to provide technical and engineering services for energy projects.

Siemens Energy also signed a memorandum of understanding with Syria’s Ministry of Energy to develop a control and operation system for the country’s electricity grid. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
