Spanish water company Aqualia has secured a three-year contract renewal from National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) to operate and maintain three floating desalination plants in the coastal city of Yanbu that will boast a combined capacity of 150,000 cu m of drinking water per day.
The agreement will run until September 14, 2028 and is extendable for an additional two years.
The facilities, consisting of three reverse osmosis desalination plants mounted on barges, have a combined production capacity of 150,000 cu m of potable water per day.
This project represents a strategic infrastructure asset for securing water supply in one of the most water-stressed regions of the world, contributing to the resilience and sustainability of the Kingdom’s water resources.
The contract reinforces Bahri’s confidence in Aqualia’s expertise in managing highly complex desalination infrastructure and further strengthens the company’s presence in Saudi Arabia, one of its most important international markets.
Through this contract, Aqualia will provide its technical and operational know-how to ensure a reliable, sustainable and high-quality service over the next three years with each plant providing 50,000 cu m drinking water per day.
The contract also highlights Aqualia’s extensive experience in Saudi Arabia through HAAISCO (Haji Abdullah Alireza Integrated Services Company), a joint venture in which Aqualia holds a stake and which is recognised as a leading provider of integrated services for the kingdom’s water sector.
Through this platform, the company carries out operation and maintenance activities for desalination and water treatment plants, including strategic facilities such as the KAIA (King Abdulaziz International Airport), KAUST, Rabigh and Jizan desalination plants, building a strong technical and operational track record in the Saudi market, said the statement.
HAAISCO’s accumulated experience further strengthens Aqualia’s ability to manage critical desalination infrastructure while meeting the highest standards of efficiency, safety and quality, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
