King Fahad Industrial Port in Yanbu has announced that it has received the Pacific Titan vessel carrying a specialised shipment of nine complete wind turbines, including major components and accessories, to support the development of the Starah and Shaqra wind energy projects in Saudi Arabia.
This was done in co-ordination with the Ministry of Energy and relevant government entities, highlighting the growing role of Saudi Arabia's ports and logistics infrastructure in supporting large-scale renewable energy projects under the National Renewable Energy Program.
The cargo included 27 wind turbine blades, together with various supplementary turbine components and equipment required for power generation from wind energy.
The specialised shipment represents one of the largest wind energy consignments handled through King Fahad Industrial Port in Yanbu.
Strategically located on the Red Sea coast, King Fahad Industrial Port in Yanbu is equipped to handle specialized vessels and project cargo, providing an important logistics gateway for industrial and energy developments in the kingdom.
The latest shipment also reflects the continued efforts of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) to boost the kingdom’s port and logistics ecosystem, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen supply-chain capabilities for major industrial and renewable energy projects.
The equipment is destined for the Starah and Shaqra wind energy projects, which form part of Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Program.
The Program is being overseen by the Ministry of Energy through the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC), which acts as the principal buyer and is responsible for conducting preliminary studies, tendering renewable energy generation projects.
It is also signing Power Purchase Agreements and Energy Storage Service Agreements with project developer consortia.
The handling of the shipment required specialised operational and logistics arrangements due to the size, weight and dimensions of wind turbine components.
The successful receipt and handling of the cargo demonstrates the port’s capability to accommodate specialized vessels and manage oversized and heavy equipment associated with major energy infrastructure projects, it stated.
King Fahad Industrial Port said the delivery of the turbine components is aimed at supporting the continued development of Saudi Arabia’s wind power capacity as the kingdom accelerates its transition toward a more diversified and sustainable energy mix.
Saudi Arabia aims to increase the contribution of renewable energy to approximately 50% of the electricity generation mix by 2030, subject to electricity demand growth, it stated.
The development supports the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030, which seek to establish Saudi Arabia as a leading global logistics hub while enabling the growth of strategic sectors, including renewable energy, it added.
