Worley supports 1.38GW UK low-carbon project

Worley has been selected as the preferred Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) supplier for the planned Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power (CQLCP) project in Deeside, UK.

The selection follows the completion of a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) competition launched in December 2024 by project developer Uniper.

If approved and developed, the power station will feature carbon capture technology designed to capture at least 95 per cent of CO₂ emissions and connect to the HyNet industrial cluster for transport and permanent offshore storage of captured carbon.

Uniper submitted a Development Consent Order (DCO) application in August 2025, with a decision expected in the coming months.

The first phase of the project could become operational from 2030.

The low-carbon facility is planned to reach up to 1.38GW capacity across two phases.

Phase one could generate enough electricity to power around 1.1 million homes annually, supporting the UK’s energy transition and low-carbon infrastructure goals.

The award highlights Worley’s integrated project delivery capabilities, combining consulting, engineering, procurement and construction expertise for large-scale energy developments.
