Baker Hughes launches global hubs to optimise mature oil, gas assets

Baker Hughes has launched a global network of Mature Assets Solutions (MAS) hubs to help oil and gas operators maximise production, extend the lifespan of mature fields and identify opportunities to repurpose ageing wells.

Announced at ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi, the network will connect customer collaboration centres across the US, Brazil, Norway, Angola, the Middle East and Malaysia, providing integrated technology and digital solutions for mature asset development.

Industry forecasts estimate that mature fields will account for approximately 80% of global oil and gas production by 2030, highlighting the growing importance of optimising existing assets.

The hubs will bring together Baker Hughes specialists in subsurface operations, wellbore technologies, surface facilities and artificial intelligence to develop solutions tailored to customers’ operational and economic objectives.

“As operators turn to their existing oil and gas assets to drive production, innovative solutions are needed to address increasingly complex challenges,” said Baker Hughes Executive Vice President of Oilfield Services & Equipment Amerino Gatti. “Through our Mature Assets Solutions hubs, we connect Baker Hughes’ regional and global expertise with customer insights to provide outcome-based solutions that optimize value across the lifecycle of these assets, which will play a key role in supporting global energy security for decades to come.”

The connected network will also enable the company to share technologies and operational expertise across markets, applying experience gained in one region to address challenges in another.

Baker Hughes highlighted several ongoing projects demonstrating its mature asset capabilities. In Pakistan, the company has launched a multi-year project with Oil & Gas Development Company to optimise production and recovery across more than 120 wells in mature oil and gas fields.

In Kuwait, it is working with Kuwait Oil Company on an integrated polymer-flood pilot programme covering 11 wells to improve hydrocarbon recovery.

In Brazil, Baker Hughes has partnered with Petrobras on an integrated workover and well abandonment project. During the first year, the company completed subsea well abandonment operations in less than 20 days, among the fastest turnaround times recorded in Petrobras’ history.

The MAS network will also support opportunities to extend asset life, improve production efficiency and develop economically viable approaches to retiring and repurposing oil and gas wells. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
