Maire has announced that its subsidiary Tecnimont has secured a contract from Fértil Pampa, a subsidiary of Pampa Energia, to develop a large-scale fertiliser complex in Argentina.

The project, located within the Bahía Blanca Industrial Complex in Buenos Aires Province, will feature a major ammonia plant and two ultra-low energy (ULE) urea production trains with a combined capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes per day, or 2.1 million tonnes annually, making it the largest urea facility in Latin America.

Tecnimont will manage engineering, procurement, commissioning and start-up activities, while Maire’s Nextchem will provide advanced urea technology through Stamicarbon licensing and proprietary equipment.

KBR will supply ammonia technology, with KT Tech providing the primary reformer for syngas production.

The project’s total value is approximately €1.3 billion ($1.5 billion), including €140 million for the technology package.

Construction will be carried out by Argentine company SACDE, with completion expected within 41 months.

The facility is set to strengthen Argentina’s fertiliser supply chain, enhance regional market competitiveness and create significant economic benefits, including more than 3,500 direct jobs during peak construction, alongside additional employment across the wider supply chain.
