Historic Jeddah revitalises heritage buildings with cultural programs

Historic Jeddah, an UNESCO World Heritage site, continues to strengthen its position as a leading cultural destination by opening its heritage buildings to cultural programmes and specialised initiatives.

This approach helps revive the historic area while giving heritage sites new functions that preserve their historical significance and contribute to their sustainability, reported SPA.

The initiatives reflect Historic Jeddah's commitment to expanding its cultural presence by using heritage buildings as venues for events, workshops, and specialised programmes.

This approach enriches cultural activity within the historic area, attracts creatives and cultural enthusiasts, and reinforces the role of these sites as spaces for creativity, learning, and community engagement, it stated.

Historic Jeddah is boosting its presence globally by taking part in major expos overseas where it showcases a range of new tourism products and interactive experiences that highlight the evolution of cultural experiences in the area and enhance its standing as a world-class destination for visitors and explorers, said the SPA report.

The diverse cultural initiatives have contributed to revitalising a number of heritage buildings, while also providing supportive environments for artisans and creatives and organising events that enrich the cultural scene.

These efforts strengthen the community's connection to the area and help preserve its cultural heritage, said the statement.

This approach underscores that preserving heritage buildings extends beyond restoration to include giving them renewed cultural and intellectual purposes, helping to preserve their identity, integrate them into everyday life, and further establish Historic Jeddah as a sustainable cultural destination, it added.
