flydubai outlines five-year sustainability vision in first report

Dubai-based carrier flydubai has published its inaugural Sustainability Report for 2025, titled fly forward 2025, marking the formal launch of its five-year sustainability strategy aimed at supporting responsible growth while reducing its environmental impact.

Developed in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the report is structured around six environmental, social and governance (ESG) pillars that will guide the airline’s sustainability agenda.

As part of the strategy, flydubai completed a double materiality assessment in 2025, evaluating both the impact of its operations on society and the environment and the financial implications of sustainability issues on the airline’s long-term performance.

The findings have shaped a roadmap with measurable key performance indicators (KPIs) for the next five years.

The six pillars include climate-ready operations, environmental stewardship, people and community development, stakeholder collaboration, safety and service excellence, and intelligent aviation driven by digital technologies, artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

The airline said the report reflects its commitment to supporting Dubai’s position as a leading global aviation hub while embedding sustainability into its operations and future expansion plans.

Looking ahead, flydubai is investing in advanced technology through partnerships with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deploy generative AI across flight operations and Starlink to introduce high-speed onboard connectivity. Supported by a growing fleet, including incoming Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, the carrier aims to expand its network responsibly while enhancing operational efficiency and transparency through ongoing sustainability reporting.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, said: “To lead a forward-thinking airline is to carry a responsibility that extends beyond the markets we serve to the generations who will inherit the outcomes of today’s decisions. This inaugural Sustainability Report reflects that responsibility and flydubai’s commitment to embedding it at the core of how the airline is governed. Guided by the UAE’s vision for a net-zero, resilient future, we are determined to pursue growth that reflects the ambitions of our nation and honours the legacy we are shaping together.”

Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, said: “Sustainability will continue to guide flydubai’s strategic direction as we continue to build a resilient and responsible future. Our first Sustainability Report marks an important milestone, reflecting the progress we have made and the clear direction we have set for responsible growth. In 2025, we completed our first comprehensive sustainability assessment and established a focused five-year strategy, enabling us to prioritise the areas where we can deliver the greatest impact. These efforts are essential to building a resilient organisation that can adapt to evolving industry and regulatory demands." -TradeArabia News Service
