Le Meridien Al Aqah launches new beach clean-up campaign
FUJAIRAH, July 3, 2017
Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort, Fujairah along with neighboring resorts Intercontinental Fujairah and Raddison Blu, have organised a beach clean-up campaign to collect waste items for recycling and composition.
The collective efforts of over 185 participating individuals has resulted in the cleanup of the 6 km long Al Aqah beach. Over 500 KG of waste was collected where majority of the items included used glass bottles, plastic wrappers, discarded snack packets, beverage cans and cigarette butts. An on-field volunteer said: “Most items found are consumer-centric, and not industrial waste. The responsibility lies upon every beach goer to ensure that they leave the beach clean, and educate people around them to do the same." This initiative was also supported by Al Boom Dive Centre & Palm Dive Centre where experienced sea divers dug up deep into the sea to remove waste items from the ocean shores.
The campaign is not only designed to improve the aesthetic appeal of the beach but has a long term objective to keep the environment protected and clean. Scheduled on a monthly basis, the Beach Clean-Up Day is a step in the right direction to preserve the natural habitat and ensure cleanliness around the beach. Known for initiatives such as Green Key, Blue Flag, Earth Hour and various cleaning programmes – the socially conscious beach resort has always led from the front in regards to community work in their 15 years of operation.
“I am very proud of all my associates who have gone beyond their call of duty to support this initiative. What happens in the sea is out of our control (referring to the tar issue) but we at Le Meridien Al Aqah have always made dedicated and well planned efforts to support the communities in which we operate” said Patrick Antaki, complex general manager, Le Meridien AL Aqah Beach Resort. - TradeArabia News Service
