Hospitality experts and local travel operators in the kingdom are already seeing a surge in travel bookings to Makkah and Madinah with the number of Umrah visas issued this year reaching 5.67 million.

The numbers are expected to increase further over the coming weeks as Ramadan draws to an end.

More than 1.2 million pilgrims will be coming from Egypt, followed by more than 900,000 pilgrims from Pakistan and around 655,000 Indonesians. The Ministry noted that this year has already recorded a 5 per cent rise in Umrah pilgrims – a figure that is expected to soar 30 per cent by 2020.
