Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel..committed to sustainability in Kuwait's community

Jumeirah Messilah Hotel certified by Green Globe

KUWAIT, June 25, 2015

The Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa in Kuwait has received its first Green Globe certification in recognition of its dedication to sustainable management and operations.

Hakan Petek, general manager at the hotel, said: “We are delighted to receive this prestigious certification that reinforces our commitment to sustainability in Kuwait’s community. Our sustainability management plan encompasses four key areas: environment, corporate social responsibility, quality of the economic well-being of the community as well as the health and safety of our guests and stakeholders. Our colleagues at all levels and across all departments are committed to achieving this plan without compromising on the Stay Different experience that our guests enjoy when they stay with us.”

Overlooking the Arabian Gulf and set in beautiful gardens, the luxurious resort features 316 rooms and suites, 80 residential suites and 12 villas.

Energy and water usage at the hotel is monitored on a continual basis and a 3 per cent reduction target has been set. To reduce electricity consumption, an in room management system (IRMS) has been implemented which automatically shuts down power and closes curtains when guest rooms are unoccupied. In addition, energy efficient appliances are used in guest rooms and windows are tinted to lower heat absorbed from sunlight.

In line with water reduction strategies low flow aerators, motion sensors and dual flush toilets have been installed within specified areas of the hotel. Outside, drought resistant native plants such as cactus, cycus and palms are grown within the gardens and landscaped areas. An irrigation schedule for sprinklers is confined to designated hours and also adjusted with the change of seasons.

To reduce its impact on the environment and to minimise greenhouse gas emissions hybrid cars are available for guests to hire at the hotel. In addition, colleagues are encouraged to use public transportation.

Colleagues at the Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa are actively engaged in corporate social responsibility initiatives. Projects to date include the World Autism Awareness Campaign and breast cancer awareness programmes.

To raise environmental awareness amongst colleagues and within the community environmental initiatives such as Earth Hour are conducted annually. Furthermore, in 2014 colleagues worked in collaboration with members from the Kuwait Turtle Conservation Project under the sponsorship of Sheikha Intisar Al Ali Al-Sabah to successfully release an injured green back sea turtle back to its natural habitat. – TradeArabia News Service
