UAE handset market to grow 7pc yearly

The UAE's mobile phone market has been forecast to grow annually at 7 per cent valued at Dh1.4 billion ($374 million) by 2014, according to research reports.
Further, the sale of smart phone devices in the Middle East would reach 8.5 million units in 2010, the reports say.
With these optimistic forecasts, SanDisk Corporation, the inventor and the world’s largest supplier of flash storage cards will be enhancing its presence at the forthcoming 6th annual Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) Middle East & Africa (MEA) event. SanDisk will showcase its new product offerings - the 32 gigabyte (GB) SanDisk microSDHC card and the Xbox 360 USB Flash Drive – to the market.
“We are futuristic in our outlook and constantly developing new technologies to expand our product offering. Based on industry projections, we are optimistic about our growth this year. The 32GB microSDHC and the Xbox 360 USB Flash Drive will be the highlight of this quarter,” added Tareq Husseini, SanDisk’s Middle East and Africa Sales director.
The smart phones and gaming industry is continually evolving and the highly-versatile 32GB SanDisk microSDHC card and Xbox 360 USB Flash Drive offers consumers great user experience, he stated.
SanDisk has once again been nominated this year for the ‘Best Retail Vendor of the Year’ award in the accessories category. The award ceremony will be held on May 19 in conjunction with DCC MEA 2010 to be held from May 18 to 20, in Fujairah, UAE.-TradeArabia News Service
