Deira City Centre gears up for Eid

Dubai, December 7, 2008

Deira City Centre is all set to celebrate the festive season in style, with numerous activities and celebrations lined up for Eid Al Adha.

The mall has also extended its hours until December 13, staying open for holiday shopping daily until midnight.

“Eid is a special time for families and friends to come together, and  we have ensured that Deira City Centre will provide them with a festive, holiday environment that celebrates its spirit. Our traditional dance performances will educate our visitors of the local heritage of this country, as well as entertain,” said Fuad Al Najjar, vice president at Deira City Centre.

From December 8 to 10, the Centre will showcase the UAE’s heritage, customs and traditions with two different forms of local dance: Stick Dance and Al Modeema. Performed by a group of talented nationals, each show will last for 30 minutes, and onlookers will be served complimentary dates and Arabic coffee.

The famous stick dance is a very popular, timeless traditional dance. It is performed with the help of drums and thin sticks where its artists also recite poetry on the subjects of victory, happiness, and love. The Al Modeema performance is based on a rhythm which is much faster than the stick dance, and involves group members sitting in a big circle singing folk songs.

Shoppers at the Centre can also participate in the ‘Eidyat Dubai’ promotion, an initiative of the Dubai Shopping Festival Office. Customers spending a minimum of Dh200 and will be entitled to join a raffle promotion in which ten daily winners will be drawn during the last three days of Eid. Each winner will walk away with Dh100,000 in cash.-TradeArabia News Service
