Omega launches well plug at Adipec

Abu Dhabi, November 10, 2013

Omega Completion Technology has launched a new retrievable bridge plug for well maintenance operations following its Middle East campaign.

The Aberdeen headquartered company, which also has workshop facilities in Dammam, is exhibiting at Adipec 2013, which began today in Abu Dhabi.

The Gemini Retrievable Bridge Plug is a high performance monobore plugging solution which can be set at any required depth in tubing or casing. Deployment is achieved in one run as well as the subsequent equalisation and retrieval of the plug, reducing intervention risk and operational costs, said a statement.

In the recent campaign, five Gemini Plugs were installed in a Middle East well for over a month while the operator conducted top-hole workover operations. The client used the tools deep set at 4,445 ft below the drilling rotary table and shallow set at 160 ft below.

The hydrostatic setting tool, which is highly debris tolerant, serviced the isolation requirements at downhole pressures of up to 5,000 pressure per square inch (psi) and temperatures of up to 125 degrees Celsius.

John Donachie, managing director, said: “The Gemini Plug has been developed in direct response to the growing need to suspend wells during regular maintenance and for zonal isolation and water shut off. Omega offers rapid well side response, meaning the tool can be easily retrieved, equalised and set for another operation.”

Equalisation is gained via jarring upwards on the plug’s fishing neck and no specialised pulling tool, probe or prong is required. Reliability in retrieving the plug is provided via the plug’s robust ratchet mechanism, combined with the element being positioned above the slips. The ‘through bore’ design ensures full equalisation occurs prior to retrieval, said the statement.

This also means that secondary devices can be installed onto the lower section of the Gemini Plugsuch as Omega’s remotely equalised Cobalt Valves, Pressure Activated Equalising Valves (PA-EV), or Water Injection Valves, it said. - TradeArabia News Service
