Chinese President arrives in UAE on state visit

ABU DHABI, July 19, 2018

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Abu Dhabi today (Thursday) for a three-day state visit to the UAE, accompanied by First Lady Peng Liyuan.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received President Xi and his accompanying delegation at the Presidential Flight.

President Xi's visit is the first by a Chinese head of state in 29 years to the Arab state and there is high expectation of closer China-UAE relations.

During the visit, the two sides are expected to bolster cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative, manufacturing sector, energy, agriculture and finance, and further promote their strategic partnership.

Prior to his arrival, in a signed article in two national newspapers in the UAE, he said: "I look forward to working with the UAE leaders to draw up a blueprint for China-UAE cooperation so as to unlock its full potentials and advance China-UAE relations at a higher level and speed and build a China-UAE community of shared future in Belt and Road cooperation.

"I am convinced that with the support and participation of our two peoples, we will be able to make history with our mutually-beneficial cooperation and contribute more to the world and the future that we share," Xi said.
