Dubai food show to host top culinary talent

DUBAI, November 18, 2015

The debut international BBC Good Food Show is set to play host to a line-up of leading culinary talent to prepare a range of dishes to inspire visitors in the kitchen.

The announcement of international celebrity Chef Ed Baines will complete the six-strong talent pool of local, regional and global culinary stars participating in the inaugural BBC Good Food Show Dubai.

Among the celebrity chefs, renowned TV star Silvena Rowe will take to the Supertheatre and share some of her favourite dishes as well as answer questions from the audience at the show, which will run from December 17 and 19 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

A leading celebrity chef and owner of five Dubai restaurants opened in less than a year, Rowe will use mostly locally sourced and organic Emirati fare, something new and challenging for this region.

One of her restaurants, Omnia Blue, has won Dubai’s favourite healthiest restaurant of the year, followed by the Innovation Chef Award and Top 100 restaurants in UAE.

A regular guest on the BBC's Saturday Kitchen, Rowe is also known for her interactive demonstrations having worked as a cookery teacher at Mosimann’s Academy of Culinary Excellence.

She will be joined by a host of fellow star chefs flying into the region to offer inspiration and tips for all Dubai food lovers. Paul Hollywood, James Marin, Andy Bates, Ed Baines and Atul Kochhar will all be present at the show’s Supertheatre to present their best dishes in front of a live audience.

“I am thrilled to be part of the inaugural BBC Good Food Show in Dubai. Participating in the event will give me a chance to show UAE residents a sampling of the healthy dishes that we prepare at Omnia. I’m always in support of eating healthily and local so I believe this show will be the ideal platform to share my recipes and ingredients with the audience,” said Rowe.

Ed Baines, chef and co-owner of Randall & Aubin, one of London’s premier restaurants and author of two best-selling books, Entertain and Best of British, will also be among the esteemed celebrity chefs taking part.

Baines’ experiences include a two-year apprenticeship with Anton Mosimann at The Dorchester Park Lane in London, working on the Wind Spirit in Monaco and at hotels in Juan-les-Pins and Queensland.

He has held positions at both Bibendum and the River Café in London, before becoming the official Armani chef in London and Milan.

Baines has also appeared in many mainstream British television cooking shows including his own titled series and is well known for judging seven series of ITV 1’s successful programme ‘Britain’s Best Dish’.

Other than live demonstrations at the Supertheatre, the celebrity chefs will also take part in book signing sessions, where visitors can have their personal copies signed, and the Interview Stage hosted by Lotte Duncan, who will also be inviting questions from the audience.

Among the other features of the show that visitors will be able to enjoy will include a retail area where they will have a choice from among the best seasonal and regional producers across 80 brands as well as a Tea Salon where visitors cans sit back and indulge in the best English teas and desserts.

Ahead of the show, budding bakers have the exciting opportunity to put their skills to the test by entering the ‘Best Cake Design’ competition, sponsored by Lurpak.

The winner will receive a baking hamper worth Dh5,000 ($1,360.9), six months’ Lurpak Cook’s Range products, a High Tea experience for two and signed cookbooks from celebrity chefs Paul Hollywood and Andy Bates.

Non-professional baking enthusiasts over the age of 21 simply looking to try their hand at baking are invited to submit their entries online with a sketch or image of previous cakes made by 30 November 2015.

Raha Moradi, event director of Turret Media, the organisers of the BBC Good Food Show Dubai, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming a selection of the world’s top chefs to the BBC Good Food Show’s international debut.

“We’re certain that visitors will find inspiration for the kitchen by watching the live demonstrations at the Supertheatre. Between the celebrity chefs participating and more than 80 food brands on display, the BBC Good Food Show Dubai is a not-to-be-missed opportunity for all food and cooking lovers.” - TradeArabia News Service
