Special prayers held for GCC 'heroes'

ABU DHABI, September 12, 2015

Special funeral prayers were performed yesterday for GCC soldiers killed in Yemen last Friday.

His Majesty King Hamad took part in Friday prayers and the absentee funeral prayers (Salat Al Ghayeb) at Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque, in Abu Dhabi, alongside Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The King reiterated condolences to the families of the soldiers who were part of the Arab coalition trying to restore legitimacy in Yemen, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Forty-five soldiers from the UAE, 10 from Saudi and five from Bahrain were killed in a missile attack on a weapons depot in Marib province.

The King stressed that the names of these heroes will remain carved in the history of their homeland and the Arab nation as they set an example of true patriotism.

Meanwhile, Deputy King His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa performed similar prayers at Shaikh Isa Mosque, Riffa.

Special funeral prayers were also performed at mosques across the kingdom in memory of the fallen soldiers.

The funeral prayer at Shaikh Isa Mosque in Riffa was led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

Government ministers and other officials were also in attendance for the prayer, which was likewise performed at all of the country's main mosques.

The Crown Prince emphasised Bahrain's continued support for Operation Restoring Hope and its role in the Saudi-led coalition that is working to restore security and stability in Yemen.

He highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to Arab and regional affairs and praised the armed forces’ contribution.
