New push to promote legal culture in Bahrain

MANAMA, July 21, 2015

Bahrain’s Judicial and Legal Studies Institute (JLSI) is planning to launch an awareness campaign to simplify basic legislation concepts and publicise legal culture.

A team comprising 120 JLSI-trained lawyers will visit schools across Bahrain to introduce students to crucial legal information in a simplified manner, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

“The campaign, which is scheduled to start in September and run until June next year, will be conducted in co-ordination with the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission and the Education Ministry,” said JLSI director Dr Khaled Serry Siam.

“The focus will be particularly on recent legal and constitutional amendments.

“A lot of Bahraini youngsters unknowingly commit acts that are punishable by the law in the age of the Internet, smartphones and social networking websites,” he said, citing the posting of pictures which represent serious infringement of others’ privacy.

The awareness campaign is part of the JLSI judicial year, which starts in September and concludes in June next year.

Dr Siam unveiled plans to launch the new-look JLSI website, which will post useful legal information and news for the public.

The institute is also planning to set up ‘electronic platforms’ at different malls to ask legal questions to people and the winners would be presented with prizes.

There are also plans to increase JLSI training programmes four-fold, in addition to expanding the scope of judicial studies and opening legal awareness centres across Bahrain. - TradeArabia News Service
