Saudi to act against social media rumours
Jeddah, November 24, 2013
Saudi police are monitoring spreading rumours by individuals on social network sites and are taking action against such people, a police offical said.
Nawaf Al-Bouq, spokesman of Jeddah police, was quoted by Arab News as saying several net surfers have been caught exchanging fabricated clips through Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp to mobilise public anger against government departments.
“We are following up on the dissemination of all such videoclips, which are made with the aim of targeting public departments and individuals,” said Al-Bouq in the report. “We have a special section for monitoring such electronic crimes. We will analyse such messages using advanced systems to uncover the perpetrators behind such crimes.”
