Bahrain sets up new hotline to report violence
Manama, August 8, 2013
Bahrain has set up a complaints centre, will operate under the National Unity Assembly (NUA), to report violent activities of anti-government thugs.
NUA is urging people affected by street violence or targeted attacks to come forward, according to a report in the Gulf Daily News.
A team of 30 volunteers from the Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS) will also monitor social media networks, including Twitter, to register any violations in the lead up to August 14 - when anti-government groups plan to demonstrate across the country.
It is the second hotline to be launched within days to tackle an escalation in street violence.
"During the 2011 unrest in Bahrain people did not have any clue where to go to file their complaints, who to contact or approach," said NUA political and international affairs head Salim Rajab.
"This time because of the developments in the country and the region, the awareness level is high among Bahrainis. We are going to monitor any violations and are open to receive complaints that will be documented and followed up with government bodies concerned."
To register complaints with the NUA, contact 17003135 and 17003137, or fax 17003134 and 17003136. – TradeArabia News Service
