Bahrain's King acts on unrest probe report
Manama, November 27, 2011
Bahrain last night (November 26) set up an independent commission to implement the unrest panel's recommendations.
The National Commission, set up by a royal order from His Majesty King Hamad, has been mandated to complete its work before February next year.
It will examine the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) and submit its own proposals, including necessary amendments to legislation and the application of the BICI recommendations.
The government will provide resources to ease the new panel's work.
However, the government will endeavour to implement BICI recommendations without delay and without waiting for the proposals from the National Commission, the royal order said.
The new commission's formation and powers are to be based upon paragraph 1715 of the BICI report, it said.
The commission will guarantee that the outcome of its work on the implementation of the recommendations is in accordance with the best international standards and practices.
Although Al Wefaq was asked to be a part of the commission, well-informed sources said it has not shown any positive interest. – TradeArabia News Service
