Voter registration in Bahrain ends today

Manama, August 7, 2011

Today marks the last chance for voters in Bahrain to register for next month’s by-elections – with almost half of parliament’s seats up for grabs.

A total of 111,814 Bahrainis are eligible to vote in 18 constituencies vacated by former Al Wefaq MPs.

They will cast their ballots in four governorates – Muharraq, Capital, Northern and Central.

Polling centres will open for the final time at Al Ahd Zaher Secondary Girls School in Hamad Town, Al Wafa’a Secondary Girls School, Isa Town, Religious Institute, Manama, and Al Dair Primary and Intermediate Girls, Muharraq.

By-elections will be held on September 24 from 8am to 8pm, with a second round scheduled for October 1 for any constituency with no clear winner.

Voting will also be held at Bahraini embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions abroad on September 20 and a week later in case of a re-vote.
