Metito achieves key safety milestone
Dubai, January 22, 2011
Metito, a leading provider of total intelligent water management and solutions in the emerging markets, has announced today that the company has recorded 1 million man hours without any Lost Time Incidents (LTI) in the UAE.
LTI is an internationally-recognised indicator of any work-related incident which results in workers’ injuries disabling them from work for more than three days. It is a measure of productivity and an indicator of the safety of the working environment.
According to a report in 2009 from Build Safe UAE, a safety statistics analyst, there were 530 lost-time incidents and 10 fatalities in the country from a sample of 67 member organisations. The Health-Authority of Abu Dhabi reported 108 construction site deaths in 2009 in the emirate alone.
“This is a huge milestone for us,” commented Fady Juez, managing director of Metito Overseas.
"Health and Safety is notoriously lax for many companies in the UAE and their statistics are not transparent and do not show the whole picture. We are dedicated to the safety of our people and in addition to their wellbeing," he remarked.
"No LTI means full availability of our workforce and full productivity, which ultimately reflects positively on the company’s performance,” he added.
“We are not going to stop here,” said Fady Juez, adding, "Our next target is to improve upon the present record and go beyond it."
Founded in 1958 and headquartered in the UAE, Metito has over 2,200 staff, with regional headquarters in Egypt and Indonesia.
From the Atlantic to the Pacific, Metito delivers, operates and owns customized water solutions and is committed to the environment.
"Metito operations and working environments are diverse – from construction, erection, commissioning, operations and maintenance…etc, therefore it is important to impart awareness into our people and offer safety training and supervision for our working environments," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
