Food prices drop in Bahrain

Manama, April 29, 2010

The prices of 38 food products in Bahrain have decreased substantially compared with last month's indices.

Traders, importers and owners of dealerships revealed the positive price trends as Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro chaired a meeting of the price control committee.

Prices are expected to drop further in coming months due to market stability and booming supplies in Bahrain and abroad. Dr Fakhro said the ministry would continue monitoring price trends and food supplies to ensure market stability.

He said a consortium of investors would soon set up a BD11 million poultry company to bolster food security and create work opportunities for jobseekers. Preliminary estimates show that it could accommodate up to 2,500 workers. Twenty-eight poultry farms will also be set up as part of the company.-TradeArabia News Service
