Domotex sees upturn in carpets sector

Dubai, October 11, 2009

Domotex Middle East, the only dedicated carpets and floor coverings exhibition in the Mena region, will feature an enhanced product offerings and trade activities during its fifth edition in May next year.

The new offerings will complement a major upturn in the carpets and floor coverings industry, said organiser Deutsche Messe Dubai Branch.

Domotex Middle East 2010, which will be held from May 10 to 12 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre (DICEC), will cater to the sustained strong demand in the GCC and Mena markets, while taking advantage of the resurgence of traditional growth markets in the UAE, it said.

Domotex Middle East 2010 will showcase a comprehensive range of handmade and machine-made carpets; textile and resilient floor coverings; parquet and wooden flooring; laminates; sports arena flooring; fibres, yarns and textiles; cleaning and application technologies; ceramic tiles; and natural stone and marble floorings, machinery and technology associations and publications.

The region's leading industry players, including wholesalers and retailers of floor coverings, decision makers in the contracting business, planners, architects, interior designers, construction companies, project planners, floor fitters and other skilled workers from the sector are expected to attend the exhibition and trade fair.

In Saudi Arabia alone, a $38 billion tourism development program has been unveiled by the government to boost the Kingdom's capacity to accommodate the spiralling number of annual Haj and Umrah pilgrims, which will consequently propel demand for carpets and floor coverings, said Deutsche Messe.

Another potential catalyst for growth is an estimated investment worth $30 billion by local and foreign investors to develop up to 130 new high-rise buildings, including hotels, convention centres and several commercial facilities in the city of Makkah, it said.

Angela Schaschen, managing director, Deutsche Messe Dubai Branch, said: “It will be a very exciting period for the carpets and floor covering industry in 2010 as we witness the sustained growth in key markets, while anticipating a major upturn in other areas that were previously affected by the global economic crisis. The region's resiliency has helped maintain the positive growth trajectory of the industry, which translates to even more exciting business opportunities in the next few years."

"Domotex Middle East 2010 will help further drive consumer interest in the region by showcasing a more comprehensive and expanded range of the latest products and services that cater to new and evolving market demands. In addition, we have noticed a much greater level of excitement and enthusiasm towards next year's event, which can be attributed to the generally positive attitude by exhibitors and buyers, who are all looking forward to move further ahead with their growth initiatives following a relatively slow year," added Schaschen.

Deutsche Messe Dubai Branch also revealed that it expects to generate new demand from the more than 750 active construction and real estate projects being developed all over the UAE. Most of the projects have been scheduled for completion in 2010 and 2011, offering excellent business opportunities for regional and international industry players.

The Designers Corner at the show will present the latest breakthroughs in design flooring as well as a select range of inspiring reference projects that will help stimulate new ideas and design concepts. The Creative Flooring section, facilitated by experienced professionals of The Academy of Flooring Skills (TAOFS) from the UK, has been enhanced to offer more interactive and engaging demonstration sessions focusing on the most up-to-date techniques and products, she said. – TradeArabia News Service
