RIYADH, December 19, 2017
The opening of movie theatres will mark a new era in the history of Saudi Arabia, as it will also contribute to identifying talented and skillful organizations and individuals who can support the art and entertainment sector in the country, said legendary Hollywood star John Travolta, in his first visit to the kingdom.
He was speaking at “An Evening with John Travolta” organized by the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) in the Apex Convention Center in Riyadh, where his Saudi fans met him for the first time and heard about his journey in Hollywood.
The top actor highlighted the vital role entertainment plays in bringing together people from diverse backgrounds surrounding art.
Lauding GEA for hosting the event, Travolta said: "I am very lucky to be the first Hollywood star to visit the kingdom after the decision to open movie theatres in the country was made."
When asked whether he would film any of his movies in the kingdom, Travolta said he would be delighted to do so "as it would indeed be a great honour for him."
Travolta expressed hope that he would soon become the first Hollywood star to be at his movie premiere in Saudi cinemas.
The evening with Travolta turned out to be a fun event for his fans as he interacted with them freely and answered all their questions.
The GEA has been instrumental in bringing some of the best in arts and music business to cater to the audience demand in the kingdom.
Recently it had organised a musical show by the renowned Greek composer and multi-instrumentalist artist, Yanni. About 20 per cent of the audience for the event held in the country's eastern region came from Bahrain, Kuwait and the UAE.
GEA said it was keen to host a wide range of seasonal, local and international events that are attuned with the different tastes and preferences of varied segments of communities in Saudi Arabia.-TradeArabia News Service
