Al Arabiya news site to offer subtitles

Dubai, December 1, 2013

Al Arabiya News Channel has launched its new subtitling service on its English-language website.

The service will enable its English-speaking viewers to follow the Arabic news bulletins and programmes with this new instant translation technology.

The service, called 'View More', was launched during the first "Al Arabiya News Global Discussion" forum held recently.

Abdulrahman Al-Rashed, the general manager, said: "The new subtitled video service on the English website will grant Al Arabiya a cutting edge, allowing us to broadcast simultaneously in several languages and enhance our presence on additional platforms."

"In the past ten years, Al Arabiya became renowned for its unique coverage of the region and the world, as well as its exclusive interviews, and with the launch of this service, we will enable millions of viewers to benefit from our rich content in their own language and through their preferred platforms," he added.

The new service, one of many features of Al Arabiya's revamped English website, will provide a series of news bulletins and programmes, fully subtitled in English, an hour after its original broadcast time in Arabic.

The visitors to its site will also be able to search the channel’s 24-hour output in English, with the ability to download video clips and see subtitles showing translations of the original Arabic broadcasts.

Faisal J Abbas, editor-in-chief of the English-language Al Arabiya News website, said the new design and features ‘seek to answer the needs of the modern internet browser, in the era of apps and handheld devices.’

Since its launch in 2003, Al Arabiya has continued to expand through its main channel, the sister station Al Hadath, and its diverse platforms such as its Arabic website and multilingual websites in English, Persian and Urdu, in addition to its social media platforms. - TradeArabia News Service
