Bahrain 3D painting enters Guinness records

Manama, March 19, 2012

Bahrain has entered the Guinness World Records for the largest three-dimensional anamorphic painting.

The image Piece 4 Peace, which measures 2,293.79 sq m, was created last month by New Horizon School (NHS) staff and students, in association with three-dimensional artist Limnesh Augustine and his team.

The event was held under the patronage of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa at the NHS Carnival, which was hosted by the Parent Teacher Association.

A team of 120 artists and 50 volunteers completed the painting in less than four hours.

The official measurements, witness statements and evidence were sent to the Guinness World Records offices in the UK for verification and certification. Guinness confirmed that it broke the existing record for the world's largest three-dimensional painting.

The former record-holding artwork was created by British artists Joe Hill and Max Lowry.

It measured at 1,160.40 sq m and was displayed at West India Quay, Canary Wharf, London, last year.

The main partners for the NHS event were Al Namal Group and Jotun Paints, with support from Artbahrain.org, Lipton Ice Tea, Wael Pharmacy, Gulf Air, UAE Exchange, Bahrain Financing Company, LIC, Almoayyed Scaffoldings, Artobrand, Al Jishi, LG, Al Karar Trading, Royal Bahrain Hospital and Vision security system.
