Bahrain in move to bolster media standards

Manama, January 6, 2012

Bahrain’s Information Affairs Authority (IAA) is bringing in experts from London-based International Media Consultants Associes (IMCA), who will advise it on how to develop broadcasting standards and strengthen media ethics.

"The government is committed to an inclusive, pluralistic and tolerant media environment," said IAA president Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.

"France has a strong, open and diverse media sector that reflects all points of view in society. The French experts will provide us with the best expertise in legislative drafting, regulatory structures, technology requirements and content development to help us achieve our goals."

The initiative is part of efforts to implement recommendations published in the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry report.

Experts will be led by IMCA chairman and chief executive officer Pascal Josephe, a long-standing senior adviser to the chairman of the French High Council for TV and Radio Regulation.

He will be supported by former French Ministry of Communications vice-director Didier Sapaut and a team of regulatory specialists in new digital technologies, radio broadcasting, audience measurement and analysis. – TradeArabia News Service
