China plans $10bn infrastructure fund

China, April 18, 2009

China will set up a $10 billion China-Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) investment cooperation fund to support infrastructure projects in the region, the Chinese Premier said today (April 18).

Wen Jiabao was speaking at the Boao Forum for Asia annual conference 2009, being held between April 17 and 19 in Boao, China.

China's foreign minister said last Saturday that China had planned to establish a $10 billion infrastructure fund for Asean during last weekend's East Asia Summit.

The summit was cancelled, however, after protesters denouncing the Thai prime minister blocked hotels where visiting leaders were staying. – Reuters
