Alba sees 3 - 5pc output loss from power outage

MANAMA, April 13, 2017

A recent power outage in Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), an international aluminium smelter, is expected to result in a loss of 3 to 5 per cent of its total production for 2017, the company said.

However, the losses from the incident will be part of an insurance claim, it added.

Alba experienced a power station outage on April 5 that resulted in a temporary loss of power in all five reduction lines for approximately three hours.

The company subsequently restored all power operations. Reduction Lines 1-4 are now operating at normal levels while Reduction Line 5 is partially running and is expected to return to be fully operational by early Q3 2017, said a statement from Alba.

The company stated that it safely managed through the incident with no injuries.

The company is conducting an investigation into the root causes of this incident. In addition, the recovery process is already under way and the company has begun “re-starting” the pots which were affected by the incident, it stated. – TradeArabia News Service
