Alba sees Line 6 expansion project on track

BAHRAIN, December 14, 2015

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), one of the world’s largest aluminium smelters, said that work on its Line 6 expansion project, estimated to cost $3.5 billion, was on track for completion by January 2019.

Once ready, the project will boost Alba’s production capacity by 514,000 tonnes per annum making it the largest single- site smelter in the world with over 1.45 million metric tonnes upon full ramp-up, revealed its chief executive Tim Murray.

He was speaking at a networking luncheon hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bahrain held recently at Bahrain Bay.

Addressing the gathering, Murray said: “The line 6 expansion will be a major boost to Bahrain’s economy and lead to the development of the Kingdom’s local downstream industries as well as provide employment opportunities for Bahrainis.”

According to Murray, the project will allow Alba to continue its marketing strategy of maintaining its core presence in the GCC, and leverage its global sales offices to directly market the additional metal produced to meet the growing international demand for aluminium.

Additionally, the top official highlighted several points in relation to the Aluminium industry and Alba’s Project Titan.

The luncheon was attended by the US Ambassador William Roebuck and leading businessmen and businesswomen representing some of the over 200 US businesses in Bahrain as well as the many Bahraini companies with US business interests. -TradeArabia News Service
