Cavotec's new-generation automated mooring units
Cavotec to install 8 automated mooring units in Salalah
MUSCAT, February 16, 2015
Cavotec, a leading global engineering group which recently won a new supply order, will install eight new-generation automated mooring units at berth five in the Port of Salalah’s container terminal, according to a report.
This third installation of MoorMaster 400E15 at the port will bring a new plethora of additional facilities and benefits to the port, said the Oman Observer report.
“This order for our MoorMaster automated mooring system indicates the ever-increasing acceptance of the technology in the regional ports sector, and points to the substantial future potential MoorMaster has for our continued growth in the segment,” Juergen Strommer, Cavotec’s chief operating officer for EMEA, was quoted as saying.
With the installation of MoorMaster, a vacuum-based automated mooring technology, the need for conventional mooring lines can be eradicated, said the report.
These are controlled by remote control and supported by vacuum pads which can be recessed in or mounted on the quayside or pontoons, vessels can be moored and released in a few seconds, it said.
“In addition to the high degree of safety offered by the system, MoorMaster also enables port operators to maximise utilisation and increase efficiency and productivity. The new generation of MoorMaster represents a breakthrough in global mooring operations,” Strommer was quoted as saying.
