Alba launches heat management programme
Manama, July 30, 2011
Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), one of the largest aluminium smelters in the world, recently launched its heat stress management programme across the organisation with a view to bolstering occupational safety.
The code of practice for the programme defines the accountabilities of each management level in preventing heat stress, sets the guidelines in advising new recruits, and provides measures for applying procedures and practices without any deviation.
The code – based on best practices in the GCC and compliant with Bahrain’s laws – also includes heat level indicators, and provides a daily heat stress index with practical tips on how employees can protect themselves.
Alba’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) department received additional support from the company’s senior management and the medical team in organising an awareness campaign on how to beat the heat during summer.
“We at Alba consider the health and safety of our employees to be a top priority. Therefore, we constantly update and improve our operating procedures and systems to match the most stringent international safety standards and developments in the industry,” said Laurent Schmitt, Alba’s chief executive.
“Monitoring heat stress levels gives us the advantage of staying one step ahead by taking practical and preventive measures against any serious situations before they could possibly occur,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
